Fraudulent Reviews Can Lead to Heavy Fines and a Mark Against Your Business' Name

Getting good reviews on a social media platform like FaceBook can be a boon to a business. Getting those good reviews can also be difficult if you don't know how to go about it. To cut corners some business people might be tempted to for example buy Facebook page reviews.

First off not only is buying reviews on any social media site dishonest it violates Federal Law. Under Federal Trade Commission regulations it is illegal to purchase online reviews. In one instance the FTC colllected a $250,000 fine from a seller of instructional DVDs for posting fake reviews.

In 2013 New York State enacted its own law against using rigged reviews. The fine for violating this law is $350,000. NYS is serious about this law. In one instance New York collected fines totaling $6.65 million from 19 companies.

Yelp is conducting its own campaign against phony reviews. Yelp's recommendation software looks for indicators that reviews aren't genuine. One indicator is too many reviews from the same IP address. Get caught posting your own or paying for positive reviews of your business and Yelp blocks your reviews with a fraudulent review alert. Google has taken down site pages suspected of posting disingenuous reviews.

There is no reason to buy Facebook page reviews or reviews on any platform. There are free online resources that tell you how to get more customers to post critiques of your business. There are also legitimate online companies that for a fee specialize in gathering honest reviews.
